Body Positivity

You would be shocked at how many times during a week we hear things like, "I hate my thighs", "my arms are too big", "how can I reshape my butt".  And all of these comments come from the healthiest, strongest women you've ever seen!  Why is it that we are so hard on ourselves!!!!

We all have a tendency to focus on the things about ourselves that we don't like and rarely acknowledge our strengths.  While it is certainly important to set goals and consistently work to improve upon ourselves mentally, emotionally and physically; it is almost impossible to become the healthiest version of ourselves if we are regularly putting ourselves down.  The first step to becoming the best version of yourself is to love and honor your body and yourself just as you are!

Body positivity is a social movement that advocates for the acceptance of all bodies, regardless of size, shape, skin tone, gender or physical abilities. This movement challenges unrealistic beauty standards and ideals.  We all embrace these social changes that have broadened the images we see in magazines and on television but when will we embrace it for ourselves!  When will we stop focusing on our imperfections and recognize our beauty?   When will body positivity become less about societal standards and more about the personal standards we hold for ourselves?

Let’s all try to make body positivity personal.  Start to accept the body that you were born with and see the growth that you can accomplish without denying your genetics.  Start to focus on what you love about yourself and instead of beating yourself up, look in the mirror and see how strong and beautiful you are every time you get cozy at the barre.......
