Tips for staying motivated in the summer heat!

The Dog Days have arrived!

We don't call them the dog days of summer for nothing!  These extreme temps and crazy storms have us all wanting to hunker down and stay indoors.  It is no surprise that we often begin to feel lazy during these hottest weeks of the year.  It takes massive amounts of energy to just keep our bodies cool these days; who has anything left to add exercise to your efforts????

Even so, it is really important to stay active and maintain an exercise routine all year long!  A little time off often leads to a lot of time off and the last thing we want to see you lose is all the gains you've made!

So, how can you reignite yourself when you see your motivation waning this summer?

  1. Be realistic with your expectations and set mini-goals.  Instead of focusing on big goals right now....set your sights smaller and create mini goals that you know you can attain.

  2. Stay away from the hottest hours of the day.  Exercise early or late in the day when the temps are a little more comfortable.

  3. Meet a friend.  Making a plan with a friend not only keeps you accountable but is also way more fun!

  4. Stay hydrated all day long in preparation for your workout!

  5. Try a new class or a new teacher to break out of your ordinary routine.

  6. Reward yourself!  Ice cream, anyone????

  7. And, above all else, do the one thing that never feels like a chore......Get cozy at the barre....
